The MS-1 MK II-RD is an analog monosynth modelled on a well-known synthesizer from the 1980s and 90s. Its signal path is fully analog and is built around a 3340 voltage-controlled oscillator, which offers saw, triangle, square/PWM and an octave-divided square sub-oscillator that can be mixed together. The oscillator range covers four octaves (16', 8', 4' and 2').
Sound shaping comes from a voltage-controlled filter with faders for cutoff frequency, resonance, envelope depth, modulation depth and keyboard follow, plus a four-fader ADSR envelope with a three-position Gate, Gate + Trigger and LFO switch. A noise generator can serve as a modulation source, glide (portamento) is included, and the pulse width can be modulated by the LFO, the envelope or by hand. The bender can be assigned to the VCO and VCF.
The onboard sequencer stores notes and rests in up to 32 steps and holds 64 patterns across 8 banks of 8, played in Keyboard or Step mode. An arpeggiator is also included. A guitar strap and a detachable handgrip with a pitch bend wheel and pitch modulation trigger are supplied for playing on stage. Connections include MIDI over USB and MIDI DIN (In, Out, Thru), CV, Gate, velocity out, external clock in, VCF CV in, hold, external audio, headphones and a main output.
