The Innovation Basic is a belt-driven turntable that carries over the main technical features of the Innovation series in a simpler construction. The chassis is a curved sandwich of laminated multiplex wood and aluminium, kept deliberately small to hold down resonance. It is offered in natural wood or black piano lacquer with aluminium parts.
A torque-rich 24 V DC motor drives the platter by belt, with electronic speed control (OSC) using an optical sensor. The platter is made of dynamically balanced high-density engineering plastic (POM or acrylic). It runs on an inverted ceramic bearing shaft with a sintered bronze bushing and Clearaudio's patented magnetic bearing technology (CMB). Speeds are 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm.
The deck has height-adjustable feet and a tonearm base. A second tonearm can be mounted, with an optional Swing-Base available for adding one, so two cartridge and record combinations can share one turntable. Wow and flutter is stated as below ±0.08 %.
