The EPICON 2 is a two-way stand-mount speaker that carries technology from the larger EPICON floorstanders into a small cabinet. A 6½-inch wood fibre cone woofer handles low and mid frequencies, and a 29 mm soft dome tweeter takes over at 3,100 Hz. The tweeter is described as having low resonance, high power handling and wide, smooth horizontal dispersion.
Both drivers use the Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) magnet system, which combines high magnetic conductivity with very low electrical conductivity to reduce distortion from eddy currents, hysteresis and flux variations. The woofers are made at the maker's facilities in Denmark. The cabinet is built from six layers of MDF with a rounded, curved baffle to limit resonance and standing waves. Real wood veneer versions carry 10 layers of hand-polished lacquer.
The speaker is rated at 87 dB sensitivity and 4 ohms nominal impedance, and the recommended amplifier power is 30 to 200 watts. Frequency response runs from 47 Hz to 30 kHz (±3 dB). The model is listed in the maker's discontinued range, and a Black (Satin) finish is shown.
