MOTOR SYNTH MKII
Desktop synthesizer that generates its sound from eight small brushless DC motors with optical and electromagnetic pickups, plus an added digital voice. It suits sound designers, composers and performers after unusual oscillator sources with analog filtering, sequencing and MIDI/CV control.
- Eight brushless DC motor oscillators with optical and electromagnetic pickups
- Two analog-filtered Motor voices plus a third digital voice (DCO)
- Four-note polyphony with ADSR, AD, AR, DADSR and ADSHR envelopes
- Built-in arpeggiator, sequencer and eight-lane motion recorder
- MIDI In/Out, USB, 3 CV inputs and 3 trigger inputs
- Input processing: vocoder, gate, sidechaining, filtering

The Motor Synth MKII is a desktop instrument built around eight brushless DC motors that change speed to produce pitch. Each motor carries an optical disc read by infra-red sensors, giving sine, saw and square waves, while electromagnetic pickups at the motor base supply a further inductive "M" waveform. There are two independent Motor voices, each with its own amp envelope, pitch envelope with acceleration and brake controls, and analog multimode filter. A third digital voice (DCO) adds a virtual-analog oscillator and noise engine with waveshaping and its own multimode digital filter.
Sound shaping includes a modulation section with two assignable destination slots per modulator, shapeable LFOs with independent clock sources, modulation envelopes, and front-panel Cross Mod and Drift/Detune controls. The performance interface has eight keypads, four pitch encoders, a Clutch function, an arpeggiator, a pattern sequencer and an eight-lane motion recorder. The mono input can be used for vocoding, gating, sidechaining and filtering of external signals.
The synth connects over MIDI In/Out, USB (MIDI and file transfer to a micro SD card), three CV inputs and three trigger inputs on 3.5 mm jacks. Audio leaves through a single 1/4" TRS output, with a headphone output and per-voice send/return loops.
