The Quintet Blue is a moving-coil cartridge from Ortofon's Quintet series. It uses a nude elliptical diamond on an aluminium cantilever and is described as sounding smoother than the Quintet Red, with moderate dynamics compared with the Quintet Bronze. It is positioned as a good fit for most music, especially rhythmic material.
The body is injection-moulded PC thermoplastic, which is light, impact resistant and scratch resistant. Neodymium magnets are used for output, and the low internal impedance of 7 ohm makes the cartridge less sensitive to loading, so it suits a wide range of preamps and step-up transformers. The coil wire is pure 4-nines silver.
The aluminium frame has threaded mounting holes and takes 5 mm or 7 mm screws depending on headshell thickness. The design has right angles, straight lines, a visible stylus and generous clearance beneath the body to simplify mounting and alignment. It is a half-inch mount cartridge weighing 9 g, with a recommended tracking force of 2.3 g.
