The PZ-DI is an active DI that takes a signal from an instrument pickup and delivers it to a mixing console. Its input impedance can be set to 220k ohm, 1 meg ohm or 10 meg ohm, so the same box can suit a magnetic pickup, a typical active instrument or a piezo transducer. The 10 meg ohm setting is intended to reduce the harsh, peaky tone a piezo can produce into a lower-impedance input.
Tone is shaped with two filters. A fully variable low-cut filter rolls off low frequencies to control stage resonance and feedback, and can be set lower for acoustic bass or higher for violin and banjo. A switchable high-cut filter softens the top end, which helps with acoustic guitars that have a battery-powered preamp.
The unit is powered by 48V phantom power, so no batteries are needed. It is intended for live stage use and also for recording or reamping a bass with the 220k ohm setting. Radial offers the J-Rak 4 rack adapter for mounting four of its DI boxes in a 19-inch rack.
