The RP78 is a turntable made only for 78 rpm records. It leaves out extra features so the build effort goes into the parts that matter for accurate playback. The plinth is lightweight and the design is minimalist.
It comes fitted with a hand-assembled RB202 tonearm, an evolution of the RB250 that was supplied on the Planar 2 and P2. The arm uses hand-selected vertical and horizontal bearings, a die-cast tube and a three-point fixing based on Rega's mounting design, which is intended to reduce stress on the plinth and tonearm. The platter is phenolic resin with a flywheel effect to help start-up speed and stability, and it runs on a precision main bearing driven by a low-vibration motor.
No cartridge is mentioned as included. Rega makes a dedicated 78 moving magnet cartridge, the RB78, which is sold separately. Listed complementary components are the Brio-R amplifier, the RB78 cartridge and a turntable wall bracket. An English manual is available for download.
