Miniature cardioid condenser clip-on microphone for brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. It attaches to a bell or drum rim via a gooseneck mount and connects over XLR through an in-line preamp.

The Beta 98H/C is a cardioid condenser instrument microphone that clamps onto the bell of a wind instrument or the rim of a percussion instrument. A gooseneck and ratcheting swivel joint let the capsule be aimed and locked in place, and an included gooseneck angle brace helps hold the position during energetic playing. An isolation shock-mount reduces key noise and other mechanical noise from the instrument.
The transformerless preamplifier circuit is designed to improve linearity across the frequency range. The pickup pattern gives high gain-before-feedback and rejects unwanted noise, and the high maximum SPL suits loud sources such as brass, woodwind and drums. The frequency response is tailored for an open, natural sound, and the compact, lightweight build keeps the mic visually unobtrusive.
The mic has a 3 m high-flex cable with an attached preamplifier and XLR output. Replacement cartridges are interchangeable: the RPM108 is cardioid and the RPM110 is supercardioid. A wireless version, the WB98H/C, uses a 1.6 m cable ending in a 4-pin mini-connector for bodypack transmitters.
