The № 5206 uses a fully discrete, direct-coupled line stage built around a single gain stage and a digitally controlled resistor network for volume. Each of the four stereo line inputs (two balanced XLR, two single-ended RCA) has its own signal-switching relay. The headphone output is driven by the preamp's own output stage, so no separate headphone amplifier is needed.
The built-in Precision Link II DAC is based on an ESS Sabre Pro 32-bit converter and handles PCM up to 32 bit/384 kHz and DSD up to 11.2 MHz, with MQA decoding. Digital inputs are AES, coaxial, optical, and asynchronous USB, plus a Bluetooth receiver with aptX HD. The hybrid-topology phono stage supports moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, with RIAA equalization, selectable gain and an optional infrasonic filter in the setup menu, and capacitive and resistive loading set from the rear panel.
Control options include the 5Kontrol app, a solid aluminum IR remote, Ethernet, RS-232, IR input and 12V trigger in/out. Setup, configuration import/export and software updates are available through an internal web page, and the unit also supports over-the-air updates.
