The X1 is a belt-drive turntable that updates the classic Pro-Ject 1 concept with newer materials. It has a 20 mm thick, 1.5 kg acrylic platter running on a stainless steel and brass main bearing, with a redesigned motor suspension that decouples motor vibration from the tonearm and chassis. Speed is switched electronically between 33, 45 and 78 RPM with a single button, and a DC/AC generator board supplies the motor.
The 8.6" one-piece carbon/aluminium sandwich tonearm has no separate headshell. Azimuth and VTA can be adjusted, and in that configuration the arm uses a TPE-damped counterweight. The deck stands on three height-adjustable, damped aluminium feet and is offered in high gloss and real wood finishes. It is available with a pre-mounted Pick it S2 MM moving-magnet cartridge, made by Ortofon and voiced by Pro-Ject.
The X1 connects to a phono input using the supplied Connect it E semi-balanced, low-capacitance phono RCA cable. A 15 V DC external power supply, a dust cover and a felt mat are included.
