The G-5 is a Stratocaster-style electric guitar with an alder body, a maple neck and a vintage-style synchronized tremolo. Alongside three standard single-coil pickups it carries a divided pickup that reads each string separately, and this signal feeds Roland's COSM guitar modeling.
A five-position Mode knob selects normal Stratocaster operation or modeled Stratocaster, Telecaster, humbucker and acoustic sounds. Modeled options include a wide-range single coil and a bright humbucker, and the acoustic mode adds jazz guitar and electric sitar voices. A six-position Tuning knob changes the pitch electronically to Drop D, Open G, D modal, Baritone or 12-string without touching the tuning pegs or altering string tension. The 12-string voice works with both acoustic and electric sounds.
Operation is simple: Mode and Tuning knobs, Tone and Volume controls and a five-way switch. The guitar connects with a standard 1/4" cable and runs on four AA batteries. It ships with a gig bag, tremolo arm and manual, and comes in black or 3-tone sunburst.
