MKH 8040
The MKH 8040 is a cardioid RF condenser microphone from Sennheiser's MKH 8000 modular series. Its pattern reduces pick-up of reverberant rooms and rear noise, so it suits spot miking, surround recording and rooms with poor acoustics.

The MKH 8040 is a small-diaphragm cardioid microphone built on an RF condenser principle. Its directional pattern limits how much room reverberation and rear-arriving noise it picks up, which helps in spaces with poor acoustics. It has a frequency response of 30 to 50,000 Hz and an equivalent noise level of 13 dB.
The transducer is symmetrical, with two backplates, which is intended to keep distortion very low. The capsule has a non-reflective Nextel coating. The design is modular: the microphone head sits on a separate XLR module, and the system can be used as a spot microphone or for surround recording. Matched stereo pairs are also offered.
Connection is through a balanced, transformerless, floating XLR-3M output, and the microphone runs on 48 V phantom power. The set includes the MKHC 8040 head, an MZX 8000 XLR module, an MZQ 8000 clip, an MZW 8000 windshield, a user manual and a transport case.
