The SMC 7.1 is an analog surround monitor controller for 7.1 setups with eight channels. It suits studios that switch between two surround and two stereo sources and want solo functions and a headphone output.

The SMC 7.1 handles analog monitoring for eight channels. It takes two 7.1 sources and two stereo sources, which allows two productions to be compared. A subwoofer can be added to a stereo source with the LFE button. Each speaker can be switched on or off, and the unit remembers the speakers last used for each source.
Solo-In-Place turns the speaker switches into solo buttons, so a single speaker is heard at its own position. Solo-To-Center places the chosen speaker on the center channel for critical listening from the front. A pair of stereo speakers can be connected to an alternative output. Level is set with a 45 mm aluminium knob that drives an 8-level potentiometer, and a mute function quickly silences the speakers. Headphones can be used instead of the speakers and have their own volume control.
An optional Expansion Rack mounts the unit in a 19-inch rack. Its switch passively routes the stereo output to four stereo outputs, adding three stereo pairs next to the 7.1 array. Connections are balanced XLR and DB25 analog, plus a 6.35 mm TRS headphone jack. The unit has an internal linear power supply with a toroidal transformer.
