The DR-680MKII records to SD, SDHC and SDXC cards in BWF, WAV or MP3. In BWF and WAV it can capture eight tracks at 96 kHz/24-bit: the six mic/line inputs plus either a stereo mix or a digital stereo pair. At 192 kHz it records two tracks. Six preamps use the maker's HDDA design, with switchable 48V phantom power, a limiter and a low-cut filter on each input.
A built-in stereo monitoring mixer feeds the headphone output and can also be recorded. Other recording tools include dual recording at two different levels, gain ganging across channels, two-second pre-recording, level-triggered automatic recording, track incrementation to split files without stopping, and up to 99 marks per take. Several units can be transport-controlled from one master through the cascade function.
Inputs 1–4 are XLR/TRS combo jacks and 5–6 are TRS jacks. Outputs are six unbalanced RCA line outs, a coaxial digital input and output (S/PDIF or AES/EBU), a headphone jack and a built-in mono speaker. Files move to a computer over USB 2.0 high speed. Power comes from 8 AA batteries or the supplied AC adapter. A 128×64-dot backlit display and a folding stand are included.
